Amy completed her Watersports Nomad Windsurf instructor course in September 2023. Her journey from student to instructor has been nothing short of inspiring and is taking her on an exciting journey around the world. We couldn’t wait to share her story of turning her windsurf passion into a career with you.

Windsurf instructor on a training course and learning to balance

The Watersports Nomad Instructor Course was more than just a training program for me—it was a life-changing and career-defining experience. From a young age, I was drawn to the water, spending countless hours sailing and fostering a deep love for watersports. In recent years, windsurfing became my true passion, and I knew I wanted to take it to the next level by becoming an instructor.

Why I became a watersports instructor

My sister had completed a similar course a few years before, and hearing about her incredible journey inspired me to step out of my comfort zone. I saw this course as an opportunity to not only refine my skills and deepen my knowledge but also to share my passion with others and join a global community of watersports enthusiasts. It was a chance to turn my love for the ocean into a fulfilling career.

What the Watersport Nomad course was really like

Completing my Windsurfing Instructor Course was an immensely rewarding experience. The course was comprehensive and challenging, but by the end, I felt a profound sense of accomplishment and newfound confidence. Not only did I improve my windsurfing technique, but I also gained valuable insights into effective teaching methods.

Beyond windsurfing, I earned additional qualifications as a Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) instructor and a Multi-Hull Sailing instructor. These certifications expanded my opportunities, making me more versatile and employable in the watersports industry. I felt ready to take on any role, whether in windsurfing, sailing, or SUP, and confident in my ability to work in diverse environments worldwide.

Landing My First Job at Club Vass

After completing the course, I secured my first job at Club Vass, the home of the Watersports Nomad course and one of the world’s premier windsurfing centres. This was an incredible opportunity, as Club Vass is renowned for its high-quality instruction, top-tier equipment, and excellent conditions for windsurfing.

My time on the course had already introduced me to the centre’s professional systems and high-end equipment, which gave me a strong foundation to build upon. Additionally, the support and recommendations from my course trainers and director, Chubsy, played a crucial role in helping me stand out as a candidate. Their mentorship and connections gave me a head start in the industry.

The First Season as an Instructor

My first season at Club Vass was an intense yet exhilarating experience. The start of turning my windsurf passion into a career. The transition from training simulations to teaching real students presented challenges, but it was also incredibly rewarding. I quickly learned to adapt my teaching style to suit different learners, build rapport with students, and create a positive and engaging learning environment.

Beyond refining my technical skills, I developed essential interpersonal and communication abilities that will serve me throughout my career. Teaching a diverse range of students in ever-changing conditions kept me on my toes, but it also solidified my passion for instructing and sharing my love for the water.

What’s Next?

As I move forward in my watersports career, I’m eager to expand my horizons. My next goal is to work on yachts while also pursuing certification as a Scuba Instructor. Eventually, I plan to transition into the superyacht industry, where I can blend my watersports expertise with a deckhand role. This path will allow me to work year-round in a dynamic and exciting environment while continuing to do what I love.

Why I recommended Watersports Nomad to my siblings

Reflecting on my journey, I am incredibly grateful for the Watersports Nomad course. It provided me with the qualifications, confidence, and professional network needed to turn my passion into a full-time career. The experience was so transformative that I encouraged all four of my siblings to pursue their own instructor qualifications through Watersports Nomad.

For anyone considering a career in watersports or looking to enhance their skills, I wholeheartedly recommend this course. It is, without a doubt, the best training available for anyone looking to make a career out of their love for the water. If you’re ready to take the plunge and turn your passion into a profession, Watersports Nomad is the place to start.
